Mountains & olive groves
Parga is a charming and atmospheric resort set in a large bay, surrounded by mountains clad in olive groves and forests of green pine. As the main resort for the Epirus region of north - western Greece, Parga is a busy attractive holiday town, but one where the traditional Greek way of life has not been spoiled by tourism. Parga's bustling harbor is lined with restaurant, bars and nightspots, while behind is a labyrinth of narrow cobbled alleys lined with traditional red-tiled houses, stretching up to the Venetian fortress. The fortress commands fine views over the harbour and out to the rocky islets scattered across the bay.
Parga is a paradise for walkers, for the best views of Parga, follow the road passing Krioneri beach until you reach a super-market and a bakery. Turn right here and follow the steep footpath up to the headland where there is a small church. Go in the morning when it is cooler and allow two hours for the return trip. If you have managed this walk and would like to explore more of the area by foot.
The I.T.S. and PARGA.NET offices has a great walking book for sale. The book also comes with a detailed walking map of the area which is very easy to follow.
